New Borderlands 2 DLC has leaked, following earlier reports that new content would be launched during E3 2019.
It has been rumoured for the past couple of weeks that Gearbox was about to surprise everyone with a shock expansion reveal during the LA Expo.
And now it appears that more information about the new Borderlands 2 DLC has leaked ahead of its official release.
While it may sound strange for new content to be launched for a game that is so old, it does make more sense when you take into account other factors.
Borderlands 3 is being released later this year and appears to have quite a big time jump between the events of the previous game.
This new DLC is expected to help bridge that gap in the timeline and help setup Borderlands 3 for later this year.
Giving players another reason to reinstall the game won’t be hard, especially if new DLC is being released that will also be free to download.
Plus there’s the fact that the Borderlands Handsome Collection is currently available to download on PS Plus for free.
The latest leak comes straight from Steam and includes leaked images of the new content bundle, via Reset Era.
The new DLC will be called – Borderlands 2: Commander Lilith & The Fight For Sanctuary and will reportedly launch on June 9.
Releasing on Sunday suggests that it will be announced during the Xbox E3 2019 conference, although this could be just a coincidence.
According to the newly leaked information, the surprise Borderlands 2 DLC will be free to download and will offer a new level cap to returning players.
Here’s the official DLC description being shared online: “Return to the award-winning shooter-looter for a new adventure that sets the stage for the upcoming Borderlands 3.
“Sanctuary is under siege, the Vault’s map has been stolen, and toxic gas is poisoning Pandora.
“Fight new bosses, explore new zones, get new loot (including an entirely new tier beyond Legendary) and join up with Lilith and the Crimson Raiders to take on a deranged villain hell-bent on ruling the planet
“Returning players can pursue an increased level cap of 80, while newcomers can automatically boost to level 30 and dive straight into the action.”
It should be noted that this isn’t official information from Gearbox and should, therefore, be taken with a pinch of salt.
However, there have been other media reports providing similar information on a new content pack, suggesting that new DLC is coming to Borderlands 2 in 2019.
Fan response to the surprise news has been overwhelmingly positive, with plenty of comments being posted online.
“Completely surprised in a good way to hear about this,” one user writes.
“I might need to redownload the Handsome Collection and give this a spin. What a crazy idea, bridging the plot between games with new DLC just before the new game launches. I mean, l loved that Dragon Age put some DLC that set the stage for DA4, but that was years ago when the game was still “live.” This is a surprise on a whole other level.”
A recent Take-Two Interactive earnings report confirmed that Borderlands 2 still boasts a large player base, with around 1 million active gamers reported.
And they will no doubt be very pleased to hear that more campaign content is coming their way.
