The pair were speaking yesterday with David Coulthard, the former Formula One racing driver. David titled his autobiography, first released in 2007, ‘It is what it is’. However Vassos pointed out the expression has since become popular on ITV’s Love Island.

He said: “Christopher just to prove how ahead of the curve David Coulthard is I’m reliably informed by my 15-year-old daughter Emily that the phrase of the moment from Love Island is exactly the same as the title of David’s first book from 2008.

“And David that is?”

The retired racing driver gave the books name before host Chris stepped in.

Mockingly he replied: “Well thank you for bringing Love Island into this amazing cacophony of creativity.”

Vassos shot back asserting “I’m not the first”.

Chris than joked “hopefully you’ll be the last”.

Season 5 of Love Island began airing on June 3 and is hosted by Caroline Flack.

The series exploded into controversy after Sherif Lanre, a contestant, was removed due to “breaking the rules” but no further details were provided.

On Wednesdays show Chris gave listeners an insight into his fitness regime and relationship with Tash, his wife.

Chris admitted: “I can’t go out running with Tash.

“She’s miles fitter for me and it’s a bit embarrassing for everyone concerned.

“Least of all me but everyone’s like, what is he doing.

“But she pushed me too hard.

“When she starts to talk to me about what I should be doing and how I should be doing it that makes me feel as I’m doing it – it hurts.

“Her words hurt me. Not emotionally, just physically.

“I would happily run a marathon every day for a week than workout with Tash for an hour or even half an hour.”

Chris Evans Virgin Radio Breakfast Show airs weekdays at 6.30am.
