Sidecar greatly improves the productivity of Mac users by allowing them to take advantage of the tablet series’ gorgeous screen to expand their workspace.
Acting as a second display, the iPad’s panel can be harnessed to get more done.
Apple has used the example of a Mac user editing two images at once with a supported app dubbed Affinity Photo, one on the iPad and the other on the computer.
The American tech giant has declared the iPad will be capable of mirroring a particular screen on a Mac, too.
Explaining the functionality, Apple said: “Sidecar lets you extend your workspace by using your iPad as a second Mac display.
“Work in one app while you reference another or view your artwork on your Mac while you use tools and palettes on your iPad.
“You can also mirror the screens so they both display the same content, making it perfect for sharing exactly what you see with others.”
Compatible apps will also bring support for the Apple Pencil, allowing fans to be incredibly creative and bring their ideas to life.
Apple continued: “Bring the ease and precision of Apple Pencil to your favourite creative Mac apps with Sidecar.
“Use Apple Pencil to design in Illustrator, edit photos in Affinity Photo, or create 3D models in ZBrush.
“And the handy sidebar puts essential Command, Control, and Shift keys right at your fingertips.”
Express.co.uk attended Apple’s recent developer conference and has seen Sidecar in action on the iPad Pro.
However, it is currently unclear which tablets from the American tech giant will support the new functionality.
In addition to Sidecar, iPadOS also introduces a number of other seismic changes to the hardware series.
One of the most notable is a new home screen that can display widgets, showing users handy information such as the weather.
Moreover, the software also touts methods of multitasking dubbed “Split View” and “Slide Over” respectively.
Discussing the functionality, Apple noted: “iPad users can now work with multiple files and documents from the same app simultaneously with updates to Split View, or can quickly view and switch between multiple apps in Slide Over.
“For example, customers can compose an email while viewing another email side by side or access multiple apps like Messages or Calendar with just a swipe. App Exposé provides a quick view of just the open windows for any one app with a simple tap.”
iPadOS will release for Apple fans later this year.
