The free No Man’s Sky DLC will be available to download from August 14, Hello Games has confirmed.
Titled Beyond, the content drop adds No Man’s Sky Online to the experience, as well as virtual reality support.
It’s described as three major updates rolled into one, and is compared to last year’s NEXT update in terms of scope.
“No Man’s Sky: BEYOND rolls three major updates into one larger free release, which includes No Man’s Sky Online, a radical new social and multiplayer experience that empowers players everywhere in the universe to meet and play together,” reads the official announcement.
“The BEYOND launch also delivers No Man’s Sky Virtual Reality to supporting platforms, bringing the entire game to life in an immersive and enriched VR experience.”
Virtual reality support will be available on PlayStation VR and Steam, while a boxed retail copy will also come to PS4.
“Grab the joystick and thruster to fly your starship over an unexplored alien planet as you peer out of the cockpit at the view below,” Hello Games explains.
“Reach into your backpack to grab your multitool, touch it to switch to terrain manipulation, and carve out intricate shapes with unprecedented control.
“Play in multiplayer and casually wave to your non-VR friends or fist bump your VR peers. Anything possible in No Man’s Sky, NEXT or any other update will soon be ready and waiting as an immersive and enriched VR experience.”
No Man’s Sky Online, on the other hand, is described as a radical new social and multiplayer experience.
The new game mode is said to empower fans to meet and play together, and without any kind of subscription fee or microtransactions.
Beyond will also contain another major new gameplay feature that’s yet to be revealed.
No Man’s Sky is currently available on the PS4, Xbox One and Steam.
